35 - Outstanding Bills
Analise picked up the pile of mail and sat at the dining table. She sorted the envelopes - bills (of all colours), junk mail, fan-mail for Mum, and three franked letters to her, three days apart, the last one posted yesterday.

She opened the bills and sorted them, matching up the yellows with the reds and the whites with the yellows. Final demand from the phone company - that would explain the dead house-phone. Notice of repossession for the cars - that would explain the car missing from the drive, they hadn't got in the underground garage as that one was still there. Final demand from the power company - that would explain the lack of power. Overdue rates - the red one would turn up tomorrow; along with the repo man.
It took her two hours to get the power reconnected. 'No, I can't pay electronically as I can't access the internet as we have no power', 'Yes, I'll hold'

'No, I can't give you a debit card as I don't know what my balance is' (this was a lie, she knew her bank balance to the simcent, but she also knew it wasn't going to be enough), 'If I could find that out, I could pay you electronically', 'Yes, I'll hold', 'Why don't you accept credit cards?', 'OK, I'll hold'. Analise eventually resorted to 'hysterical female', an approach entirely at odds with her personality. By sobbing uncontrollably down the phone, she finally got a 'Just this once, what's the credit card number, please' - forty-five minutes later the computer purred into life.
She Simgled Westhouses Military Base and got the gate-house number.
"Westhouses gate-house"

"Can you put me thorough to the hospital wing please"
"Sorry Ma'am, where?"
"The hospital wing please"
"We don't have a hospital, Ma'am, only an emergency unit"
"You must do, I was there all last week.", adding, "Can you put me through to emergency unit then"
"Name, rank and military number, please Ma'am"
"Sorry? What? I'm not in the military"
"Name, rank and military number of your partner, please Ma'am"
"I don't have a military partner"
"Then you can't have been in the emergency unit last week, Ma'am"
Analise remembered the light well, there had been at least three floors below and one above.
"Big grey concreate building, at least 5 floors, possibly more"
"Nothing on base higher than three floors, Ma'am, except the control tower"
"Can't have been here, Ma'am", and with that he hung up.
Analise was truly pissed now, someone was lying to her, probably the gate-guard. She'd drive out and see. She was just about to pull out of the garage when she remembered the road to the base was a dead end and closed to all but military vehicles. She went to Melissa's room and changed her top and bra for something sexier - the tightness hurt her ribs.

She considered changing into a skirt, but her red legs weren't up to doing sexy.
